Work & Travel USA offers international university students the opportunity to experience the United States as more than a simple tourist whilst gaining invaluable work experience.
During their main holiday, applicants can work at entry-level positions in virtually all aspects of the Hospitality and Tourism sector, with more sectors being added in the future. Placements are available in countless hotels, motels, resorts, parks and restaurants throughout the U.S., from Las Vegas, Colorado, New Mexico and Myrtle Beach, to name a few. Working side by side with U.S. citizens and participants from around the world, students have the opportunity to share their own customs and beliefs, in a true cultural exchange. After the completion of the programme, applicants have an optional month of travel to broaden throughout the US.
- Age range: 18 to 28 Years old
- Minimum work placement duration: 2 Months
- Maximum work placement duration: 4 Months with an optional extra Month for travel
- Minimum English level: Pre-Intermediate or above (Level 3+)
- Be a full-time University student
- Wages: Between US$5.85 – US$10.00 per hour (Depending on State or company of placement)
Applicants will be working at:
- Ski Resorts in Colorado and Utah.
- Amusement Parks in Orlando and Myrtle Beach Florida, and Tennessee.
- Casinos in Nevada and Utah.
- Hotels & Restaurants all across the United States
Applicants will work in entry-level positions, much like an American student would during a school holiday. Although a secure placement will be offered, specific job duties may be determined by the employer upon arrival. The following jobs provide a general description of the most common types of work placements.
Front Desk: Includes answering phones, assisting guests, and checking reservations.
Housekeeping: Includes cleaning guest rooms and bathrooms, doing laundry, making beds, and taking out garbage.
Kitchen Help: Includes washing dishes, cleaning the kitchen, assisting the cook and taking out the garbage.
Wait staff: Includes serving guests, cleaning tables, and washing dishes.
Sales: Includes preparing and selling food, using cash register, helping customers, working with retail and mopping floors.
Ski Services: May include working as a lift operator, checking lift tickets, working in a ski shop, shovelling snow and helping skiers.
Maintenance: Includes mowing lawns, mopping floors, cleaning pools and some light repair work.
A selection of our employers offer housing, if accommodation in included it will be written on the Job Description. If the employer does not provide housing the applicants may request accommodation arrangements to be made for an additional fee of £60. The cost of housing will usually be an affordable monthly rent, but applicants should expect to share the bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchen in an apartment, house or dormitory-style accommodation with other international students and or applicants.
A security deposit may be required prior to applicants moving into the accommodation. The home-owner may retain this deposit if damage to the property occurs or if housing agreements are broken.
Applicants will usually be responsible for buying and preparing their own food, but in some cases employers may provide meals or meal allowances.

Flights should be arranged by applicants to arrive in the nearest City with an International Airport to the employment location. Other details will be given to applicants along with the job offers they have selected.
All applicants will be covered by health insurance included in the price of the Work and Travel program.
All safety issues are covered in an applicant handbook that will be received after applicant is placed with a job.
